Under the Headphones - Really

on Mon, 03/10/2008 - 05:48

Looks like several people got different types of photos of me spinning tunes at the Acquia party at Drupalcon last week. Thanks, Dries and Tim. ;-)

Oh, and there's another nice photo there: Can you see how I'm pretty obsessed with Acquia at the moment?

Is Drupal Like The Others?

on Mon, 03/10/2008 - 04:34

Matt Asay blogged about recent research suggesting that much of the core development work on open-source projects is done by paid developers.

It's interesting to consider this in the light of Drupal.  Drupal has lots of contributors who are totally volunteer - and they've been contributing to Drupal for a long time.  Yet, there are Drupal developers who work for places that pay them to develop sites and functionality on Drupal - even though those companies aren't the one who offer Drupal in some commercial way (the way Alfresco does for Alfresco).

I don't know whether this will change for

Boy, I spoke too fast

on Mon, 03/10/2008 - 04:13

Here's a podcast of the talk Dries and I gave at Drupalcon where Dries and I introduced Acquia.

See here.

I've spoken a lot in public, and am quite comfortable in front of a crowd. (In fact, I enjoy it.) Despite this, I think I was really trying very hard to please the Drupal community, and I must have been more nervous than I usually am. (Now, I have been accused of talking at "T1" speeds before, but I usually try to slow down.)

Please accept my apologies for speaking too quickly. (blush)

Modest Pride

I don't want to sound too bombastic, or take more credit than is due. But I'm proud of what our team at Acquia did to help make Boston 2008 Drupalcon a fantastic event. There's a bunch of things I think we did right:

  • Proposal to the Drupal Association. Kieran, an (terrific but no-longer-at-Acquia) admin and I spent a solid month researching venues, estimating costs, planning, and coming up with a well articulated proposal for the event. Having thought about it all in advance helped both us, and the Association, a bunch.
  • Finding the right venue.

I need a theme. Wanna pitch me?

on Sat, 03/01/2008 - 19:00

This is a "new" blog for me. (On Drupal, of course.) Different from my old blog (now offline), which I haven't contributed to in a while as I've ben launching Acquia.)

But I need a theme - and I'd prefer something unique, vs. an off-the-shelf Drupal theme.

Anybody who wants to pitch me on creating one for me whould contact me.
