Who doesn't love summer?

on Sat, 08/07/2010 - 15:09

This could be the best day of summer this year.

I just finished a fast, satisfying 50 mile ride. Now I'm sitting on the back patio, 73 degrees, full sun and cloudless blue sky, surrounded by amazing nature.

  • Three hummingbirds talking to each other as they feed at the honeysuckle & morning glory. (I've never heard hummingbirds talk before, nor seen more than one at a time - they're pretty solitary.)
  • Honeybees working the Ruby Spice & white Hydrangea bushes that are in full bloom. You'd think I have a beehive next to me there's so much buzzing going on.
  • Dragonflies perched on the tips of the flowers of the basil & oregano plants. I love dragonflies; they're so gentle and helpful.
  • Brilliant-yellow male goldfinches fussing at each other as they jockey for the "best" perch on the thistle seed feeder. (What makes the one perch better than another, I wonder? Probably just "possession.")
  • A little red squirrel sitting on the "bird" feeder (nee, squirrel feeder...), chowing down and cussing at the poor birds that try to come in and snag a bite to eat.
  • Flowering, fragrant bushes filling the air with sweet, light summer aromas, making you wish this time would never pass.

Amazing creation & work, God. Thanks.
